Chicago man killed in car crash on Edens Expressway
Michael J. Adams, 18, of Chicago, was killed late Wednesday after causing a multi-car accident when he entered the Edens Expressway in the wrong direction.
According to Master Sgt. Todd Borisy of the Illinois State Police, Adams was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of the Edens Expressway. He entered the expressway at Touhy Avenue, drove approximately one mile and crashed head-on with an unidentified driver from Wilmette. The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m.
Adam's car then ricocheted off that car and crashed into another vehicle driven by an unidentified woman from Niles. The driver from Wilmette was taken to a local hospital with a broken tail bone. The Niles driver was uninjured and refused treatment by paramedics.
During the investigation, the northbound lanes of the Edens expressway were closed.
According to Borisy, authorities received about six phones calls from motorists who had seen Adams driving in the wrong direction. Authorities still do not know why Adams was driving in the wrong direction. It does not appear he was under the influence.
