Mateo Ortiz, 38, of Chicago, was sentenced to 5 years in prison after pleading guilty to DUI charges.
On Aug 2, Mateo struck and injured a pedestrian in Norridge, IL. Another motorist who witnessed the accident, blocked Ortiz's car then reached through the windows and removed the keys from the ignition.
Ortiz pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI. He struck a 63 year old man who was walking in the 7200 block of Forest Preserve Blvd. The victim sustained a broken leg. According to authorities, Ortiz, at the time of the accident, was wanted on four other DUI arrest warrants. Ortiz, who is an undocumented immigrant, was using aliases.
